The Canvas – The Canvas is a teen arts center, committed to youth leadership, engaging arts programs and community-building. The Canvas offers workshops, classes, special events, materials and support for young writers, dancers, visual artists, performers and artists of all kinds. Public Art St. Paul - Free arts workshops every week this summer! Teaching artists lead participants in performance and visual art activities that are fun and accessible for youth of all ages, cultures, and abilities. Workshops are completely free and no registration is required.

Penumbra – TRAINING THE NEXT GENERATION OF ACTIVIST ARTISTS. Penumbra’s Summer Institute is a four week theatre training program for youth ages 13 – 18. Students work with professionals to create art that addresses issues relevant to their own lives.

SteppingStone Theater – Their teen classes offer young actors a chance to put their talents to the test with specialized coaching in acting, voice, movement and auditioning. They have programming for all ages up to 17 years old.

In Progress – In Progress has an open studio for art-making and chilling, Mondays: 5-7PM and Fridays: 4-6PM. You can also register for their workshops on photography, electronic music, film and more.

Merrick Community Services – MCS offers leadership groups, arts programming, field trips and more. The East Side Heritage Project is a program for African American males offering leadership training, Saturday school, basketball, and mentors.

ArtVenture – Youth work side-by-side with professional artists seasoned in their medium. Packed with supplies, the Artmobile! van winds through the streets of the East Side for seven weeks during the summer- rain or shine, sticky or cool. It’s all free and for youth K-8th grade.

Youth Farm – West Side – If you live on the West Side of St. Paul, check out Youth Farm. With a crew of people your age, learn how to grow, cook and sell your own food, along with many other activities. www.youthfarm.net

Sister Circle / Men on a Mission (East YMCA) – Sister Circle is a program for young women in the East side area to come together and discuss pressing issues for female teens, make new friends and experience personal growth. Men on a Mission is a program that is designed to give young men a positive group setting as an alternative to much of the negative group behavior that exists in their community. Both groups are open to ages 11-18.

Freedom School – CDF Freedom Schools strive to help young people (K – 9th grade) gain a sense of their own history and culture as well as discover and develop their individual identities and talents. Students read from a wide selection of books, which reflect their own images, and helps strengthen self-esteem. Freedom Schools also help children: • improve their academic skills • interact with role models of color • understand the value of social action • promote their character-building skills • gain access to nutritious meals
